Can you plateau on CICO?
Post Body

Hi All. I am a little frustrated right now and trying to remain positive. Earlier in my weight loss, I plateaued for 7 weeks with 0 lbs lost. Prior to the plateau, I had lost 23lbs. That is when I started looking at changes and CICO came into the picture.

I started CICO in April 2024. My weight loss journey started January 3rd 2024 so I was doing just a regular diet and exercise for almost 4 months with reasonable results. CICO has been doing well for me, no question there. The weight loss picked right back up again once I started it. Since starting CICO, I have lost 20 more lbs. 43lbs down in total, packing on a lot of muscle.

Now, I am struggling. I recently increased my calorie intake to ~1800/day. Calories burned ~2600. Last week, I was at 4908 calorie deficit. The week before, I was 5235 calorie deficit. In these 2 weeks, I have gained 1 lb.

To note, everything is tracked and calculated through my Samsung watch and Samsung health so my TDEE is pretty accurate.

To me, that throws the 3500 calorie rule out. I know I should not be focusing on the scale but it is frustrating. I do look and feel better but I want to get to my goal sooner rather than later and I have been doing everything right. I am only trying to lose 1lb per week, but my calorie deficit should have me losing 1.5lb per week yet I have not lost anything in 2 weeks now.

Back to my question, can you Plateau on CICO? You shouldn't because everything I see, hear or read says no, calorie deficit = weight loss.

Thank you fellow CICO team.
