How to make the most of a munch?

Post Body

I (29 M) just left my first munch. I’m glad I went, both to get a sense of the vibes in general and to see how they work. I definitely felt comfortable among the crowd and look forward to going to another.

However, where I could use some advice is in how to make the most of the kinky crowd there. I had made an arrangement on FetLife with another (26 F) attendee so we wouldn’t be lingering awkwardly alone in the corners, but we ended up more or less chatting together the whole time. In the brief period before she and I found out who the other was, I didn’t really see any openings to join an ongoing conversation, and there weren’t really any other folks lingering by themselves to hit up at that time.

I won’t draw any conclusions from one munch where I didn’t even have or make an opportunity to intentionally meet complete strangers. But I didn’t exactly feel like I could, either. After a short while, those who came partnered were just sidling up to their priors and making out with them - which I don’t have a problem with in a vacuum, but it’s not exactly behavior inviting further outside interaction 😅

Full disclosure, I’m AuDHD, so social interactions and cues have never exactly been my strong suit. But I guess I had hoped other groupings would make a more intentional effort to welcome in stragglers? Or at least not come across so closed off.
