I’ve been in the BDSM community for a while, and one issue I’ve run into repeatedly is the challenge of setting and respecting boundaries, especially in new Dom/sub relationships. It feels like some people rush into dynamics without fully understanding or discussing their limits, which can lead to confusion, frustration, or even emotional harm.
In my recent experience with a new sub, we went over some basics beforehand, but during the session, I realized there were some unspoken boundaries I hadn’t accounted for. It made me think: Why do we sometimes struggle to communicate these things openly? Is it nerves, excitement, or a lack of experience?
Have any of you faced similar situations where boundaries weren’t clear, and how did you handle them? Do you have any tips for ensuring both parties feel safe and understood from the get-go?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on how we can improve communication and make sure everyone’s needs and limits are respected right from the start.
