What are the best rules for a start of a Dom/ sub dynamic

So I was in a long term dynamic before and it was really fun and I’m trying to start a new one but I’m coming up a bit short for things to do when starting out, when I was in my last long term dynamic it felt smoother and we had a sort of routine almost and we’d try new things and it was good.
But I’m not very experienced and that was my only long term dynamic so any pointers would help, and to be clear I haven’t started a dynamic but I fumbled a few I think because of that
