What are best practices when caring for bruises?

I got a really good beating this weekend and I have some fantastic marks. Some of my cane hits broke the skin, and I know how to care for those wounds, but I'm not sure about the bruises. Anything in particular I should be doing? They aren't bothering me excessively (they are sore but not agonizing).
