For riding crops, how do PU/Vinyl/PVC materials feel compared to leather?

I was looking to buy a new riding crop and found that all the options on the online kink shop had tips/tongues made of vinyl/PU/PVC (as listed). They're all very affordable ($10-20) range, which makes them attractive. However, what do they feel like compared to tongues made of real leather?
I know that floggers with the fake leather are much more stingy. Leather is heavier and hence more thuddy, but is the difference significant for a riding crop?
