If you use the "silent treatment" / "going no contact" as a form of punishment in your dynamic, why?

It seems this is a very widely used method of punishment, especially online. I've seen it used in abusive relationships, but I'd like to get an idea of how it's used with a healthy d/s focus.

Note: I think the unhealthy aspects have been covered extensively elsewhere, so I'm mainly interested in hearing from people who think it's a good idea...
