There's a few parts to your question so I'm gonna break up my answer:

1. The Risks

There are absolutely high risks to doing a lot of this more extreme stuff. That said a lot of that can be mitigated if you know what you're doing and appreciate them fully. Another thing that allows for risk management is the fact that there's a crew around to help watch for signs of distress or other hazards. Plus a lot of check-ins and other pacing breaks are hidden in the edit. That said, a lot of these scenes are much longer than the final clips as a result. Think 5 minutes of prep, shooting, and breaks per 1-3 minutes of edited footage.

I'd absolutely say that these shoots fall into the realm of "Personal Responsibility Informed Consensual Kink (P.R.I.C.K). They're definitely not "safe" and they're often not what most would describe as "sane." That said we performers go into these shoots knowing what is generally going to happen, unless we specifically requested to be left in the dark and surprised.

1. Do we enjoy it

This is by far and away the most fun and least exploitative job I've ever had. I'm usually intimately involved in coming up with the devious shit that my costars do to me. Hell, I plan, produce, and direct about 25% of the shoots I do. That said I love when I work with my friends because they're the ones I trust to take control and surprise me; they never disappoint to be just as wild, creative, and fucked up as me 😈😉☺️.

As far as why I enjoy scenes or want to do them the reasons vary: - Sometimes I just want to challenge myself to see if I can handle the experience, to pish through something hard to validate to myself that I'm a real badass. - I also enjoy submitting to people and sometimes letting someone make me truly deeply unenjoyably suffer can unlock a deeply meditative and intense submissive state that I love to inhabit. - I'm also a very heavy masochist. I can orgasm from pain alone in the right circumstances. My brain processes all sensation as a spectrum so pain is just a sensation taken to the point of overload; sometimes it can be nice to enjoy that experience. - I love power play and pain play, and I am drawn to extremity. I really enjoy coming up with the most twisted tortures I can and the cruelest predicaments; the thing that separates me from sadists is that I always envision myself as the victim of these torments.

I do, often with some of the same friends I shoot content with. I would say that my private life scenes are definitely on the extreme end of things most of the time. I pretty much only play with other experienced professionals in my personal life just because at the level of intensity and risk I play at that experience level is important. Especially when I'm doing an extreme 90 minute scene with someone at a convention that I just met yesterday.
