Is BDSM tape (used for restraining) safe to use on the mouth?

Bf and I bought bondage tape, I /think/ it might be PVC material, unsure exactly. Haven’t had the chance to test it on him yet as we see each other bi weekly :(
I want to try to cover his mouth with it, was wondering if that would be a stupid idea? lol
