What's important for a sub joining a group scene?

So I've never been a part of group play, not even a threesome, but I'm really curious about it. I'm assuming there's more to balance and even more need for communication with more people involved, but what do you think a sub should remember, focus on, prepare for when there's more than one partner? What about when joining a couple or being the "outsider" to a familiar group dynamic?
