Do Doms speak to their Sub outside of their dynamic?

Hello, I am new to bdsm. I am interested in a Dom but he only contacts me late at night for a conversation and sexual request. I am eager to meet him but it is not met with the same eagerness.
I really want to be a sub for this dom but by heart has started to physically ache due to my overwhelming sadness of him not interacting with me unless it is when he feels like it, late at night. Is this how a dom/sub dynamic works?
