How to talk in a in-dynamic way?

I (25M/D-type) am working towards restarting a thing I had with a sub (28F). One of the issues was that I was too soft (she was my first bdsm play, so I guess I actually was).

I am planning a scene with her for the next time we meet, but after (or before) the scene I want to talk with her. About random life stuff: how's her life, how's my life, and so on. What are small ways I can spice things so she's still knows her place, even though we're we're chatting?

(This is obviously a different thing than after care!)
