Let's talk uni-taskers. What do you have in your kitchen that can only be used for a single task, and why?
I have a soda-stream, for convenience. I hate lugging soda water from the store. I also have a pasta maker, because hand rolling is a p.i.t.a. and I love fresh pasta. And a pickling crock - because pickles.
Almost more importantly, what are uni-taskers that you've purged and never looked back? What did you replace them with?
Almost every spatula left and was replaced with a single slotted fish spatula. The garlic press left when I gained more-than-mediocre knife skills. I'm on the verge of just getting rid of the colander, because I can strain the pasta in the pot with the slotted fish spatula.
What are the items you found were extraneous once you had better technique? or a multi-tasker that took their place?
