I tried making this recipe (specifically, pikachu), but the pastry portion just wentā¦horribly wrong. Cookie dough was fine, but the second part of my pastry came outā¦too thick and chunky? Not at all smooth like his. On top of that, Iām working with a dumb American brain and did my best to convert grams of each ingredient into āAmericanā or whatever, which probably caused some additional issues. I donāt have an electric scale, but Iām considering buying one just to make this easier.
The biggest issue though is the temperature! Iām so confused. It says to start at one heat and reduce to another (180C to 160C, which according to google is 356F to 320F). Which is fine, I understand that. But it only says reduce and bake for 30 minutes. And mine were still pretty underbaked when I did that. Should I do 30 minutes on each temperature? I wound up just giving up after 45 minutes. Tried to cut off the tops but because itās not as seemingly baked as his came out, it just completely fell apart. š„²
I wish there was a written down version of this recipe, but I canāt find anything. I just thought this would be a fun thing to make for my toddler because he loves pikachu and heās seen this video and gets really happy when he sees it. I enjoy baking, but Iāve never done much with pastries and Iāve heard theyāre harder to get right. Does anyone have any advice?
