Why is it that some brown people are always randomly selected for security checks and some are never?

Post Body

My bf is Indian. 45 yo and quite established. He's always selected for random security checks even when flying locally.

I'm Pakistani. 26 yo and in grad school. I have never been selected. Even when flying internationally and even when I didn't have a passport and was a Pakistani on paper.

We both look very desi but have very different skin tones (South Indian vs Pathan).

We often joke about it and make theories on why it happens, but we're genuinely curious too.

We're a gay couple so we're the same gender if that matters.

Oh, and I'm literally named Osama.

Comments

I've lived in the US for 30 years and never had a random security check. Could gender play a role? I'm a woman. Do men get checked for frequently?
