Hi all. I was wondering that. I read some statistic that Asian Americans are least likely to use therapy. I thought about paying for therapy, but I highly doubt it would help. 2 of my biggest problems are my constant academic stress and my physical health problems.
I have no idea how a therapist can help with that. I am just waiting until I finally graduate from college and my physical health improves. That should finally fix the terrible state of my life.
Once, I actually paid for a 1 hour therapy session to talk about my constant academic stress. I am not even joking, but the idiot therapist unironically ended the session in like 15 minutes. Then, she casually replied that she had another session in 15 minutes and wait for next week's session to speak more?! After a few days, she casually told me to cope with my academic stress by watching funny videos and similar activities that I already knew.
How about others? Has therapy improved life?
It depends on age. 50s and older are ashamed of it. I'm seeing a therapist and it's helped me heal from my divorce and traumatic past of abuse, domestic violence.
I had terrible therapists but now seeing a good one. She's a younger white woman but really listens and empathizes with my struggles. She gives suggestions and helpful with feedback without being dismissive. I tried an Indian therapist thinking she gets it but no she was horrible. Rude and super-judmental and dismissive.
Read reviews and research the type of therapy you're seeking. Read up on how to find the right therapy.
