How common is it for random people in public to yell and curse at South Asians for speaking a foreign language? What is the best response to that?

Post Body

Hi all. I was wondering that. I read stories where Spanish-speakers in America are randomly yelled and cursed at by random people. The random people say something like, "You need to speak English because this is America."

I have no idea why others care about a private conversation. I don't care when I hear people speaking Spanish or other non-English languages.

That never happened to me. I assume people either don't care or are truly wondering what rare language I am speaking.

How about others? I have no idea what could even be a good response to that.
