a few times zizek has said that if your a philosopher today you should study videogames, but that he can't because he's too old.
i came across an old thread recently that made me think of the sort of thing that zizek may have to say about the following comments regarding red dead redemption 2 specifically
So far coming across the Klansmen in the woods in the middle of the night and then dynamiting them, and noticing no effect on my honor, has been my favorite part of the game.
...
Thereโs a stranger you meet that turns out to be an ex slave owner. After giving him what he wanted, I shot him in the head and gained honor.
...
I let him languish in his misery. Maybe I should have put a bullet in him.
...
Yeah I figured that killing him would just put him out of his misery so kept him alive as well.
...
I hogtied him, rode around with him for a while, and finally went and dropped him in front of a gator.
in this instance the game even reinforces certain behaviour by the in game mechanic of "honor"
and other comments as well. there's plenty of instances of this activity but on the other side as well, where players go out of there way to kill feminists and the like.
any thoughts, or references to thinkers who have elaborated on this phenomena? what do you think zizek would say about this?
