I completed skyward sword finally and there was no mention of hylians, only humans. Iv always known the short elf like characters link and Zelda are always reincarnated as to be the hylian species, Iv never once heard the word human used in any of the games.

Are hylians a subspecies of human, and would that mean that sheika are also a subspecies of human? Did humans somehow evolve into hylians despite looking exactly the same? Do they rename themselves from human to hylian when they leave skyloft to live on the surface in hyrule?
