I just gave up. And it's better for my enjoyment of this game.
I know Nintendo published that timelines were meant to exist and supposedly make sense, but they also indirectly said they were effectively rebooting the lore beginning on BotW with the whole "it's so far in the future that timelines just converged!" thing. I think it would be more honest just to say they are rebooting the lore, but I guess some fans don't want to see that way for some reason. I don't like it because it leaves most previous games events as canonically redundant.
Contrary to that, trying to connect TotK with previous games just gave me so much headache I was starting to get a bad taste for the game's storytelling. When I finally accepted it was its own version of the story, it felt way better. I don't think it makes sense even with BotW, but rather just uses it as a retconned background, which I'm also fine with.
How do you feel about all this situation?
