Invoked Mekk-Knight Sky Striker Decklist and Discussion/Thoughts
Post Body

Hello everyone, hope all is well. A few days ago, there was a post about this deck, and I said I'd share my list a little down the line. Unfortunately my friend had to give his camera back, but I still wanted to share the deck I've been topping locals with. It sucks there hasn't been an easily accessible regional by me yet to really give this an overdrive, but every locals I've attended with this, I've been at least Top 4, and won the majority. Locals by me can be anywhere from 15-25 people.

To be clear, I'm referring to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/yugioh/comments/9ak6n4/how_good_is_invoked/e4wwdy1/?context=3

When I'm home from work tonight, I'll post a cool decklist picture just to add some spice, but here's at least the physical list. For now here are some random thoughts I have about my build:

Main Deck:

  • Depending on how the banlist is structured, I may move Droll to the side and max out on the Ghost Ogres and Ashes. I run 2 of each different handtrap due to Gouki. I also run 3 Impermanence to make sure Gouki cannot Called by the Grave.
  • I used to run Mekk-Knight Yellow Star in the main, but my thought process now is that it isn't needed. It's more rare to see yourself in a situation where you summon Yellow and have another Mekk-Knight in grave to pop a spell/trap. With how the game is, your opponent will have likely activated that card before you can even activate your Yellow Star.
  • Phantom Skyblaster is awesome to swarm the field, but a lot of times is overkill. I do find it awesome to turbo out Skull Dread to refresh my hand if I brick, but even some "bricks" in this deck become great (EX: No Invoked cards, but can swarm with Mekk-Knights, links, etc).
  • If I were to remove anything in the deck, it may be Skyblasters, Link Spider and Skull Dread in favor of fitting Gamma and Driver in here. I've seen the merits of Gamma, but I also realize how the Gamma package can brick you as well.
  • My biggest issue with my extra deck is that I cannot fit Knightmare Unicorn or Decode Talker. I'd love a Link-3 monster to make best use of Mind Control. If I had to pick a card to remove currently, it would most likely be Link Spider (I'd love opinions on this).
  • I love the spell line-up. I think the Invoked support ratios are great. I do not run Desires, so I do not want to clog with 3 Invocation. On the flip-side, I want to see Aleister, so I max out on Meltdown. Since Meltdown is a hard OPT, I only run 2 Terraforming. 3 would clog. The also obvious 1 copy of The Book of the Law. This should NEVER be played at more than 1. I also love my Sky-Striker ratios. The reason I main Afterburners rather than Jamming Waves is essentially the same reasoning as why I cut Mekk-Knight Yellow Star. Afterburners is the one they will have a less likely response to rather than Jamming Waves. As for the other spells, Monster Reborn is great to revive an opponent's link monster, or any other useful asset. I max out Called by the Grave even going second to ensure no responses to my plays, and to easily add a spell to my grave. I run 2 Mind Control due to it being a great baiter on something like Invoked Mechaba or any annoying monster they may have. It also helps me easily access Aleister the Invoker of Madness or a Knightmare Phoenix to pop a S/T.

Extra Deck:

  • The Invoked Extra-Deck monsters I think are good as is. There are times you want more than 1 Mechaba and Purgatrio to pressure opponents. If somehow you don't OTK with Purgatrio, you want another to fall back on later in game. I'm not sure why many more people don't like Raidjin. There will be times you're forced to go first, and you can set a board of Aleister the Invoker of Madness, Raidjin/Mechaba, and Book of the Law. Even with Gouki, they cannot get through a Raidjin AND Mechaba disrupting them easily.
  • I chose Knightmare Phoenix over Cerberus due to it being an easy to access S/T popper, and also being a fire for Purgatrio to be summoned. Knightmare Goblin is there for the 2 card OTK with Drones and Aleister.
  • There are many times I access both Kagari, so I wouldn't cut it to 1. The Hayate is used with that 2 card OTK mentioned above (if anyone does not already know it, I will gladly explain in the comments).
  • Link Spider and Skull-Dread are there to synergize with Phantom Skyblaster. As mentioned previously, these would be the first to be cut if I decide to going forward.

Side Deck:

  • I think my side deck can use the most improvement still. I used to tech in 1 copy of World Legacy Secrets going first, but realized a lot of the time it's a dead card.
  • I love the Cyber Dragon engine in the side just as another out to a U-Link board.
  • 3 Shared Ride is excellent against either the mirror, pure Sky Striker, or even Gouki. More draws you have, more of a chance to draw into a hand trap, etc. This is basically the spell version of Maxx "C" and discourages your opponent from going off.
  • 2 Twin Twisters and 1 Jamming Waves is my backrow removal. I also run 3 Evenly Matched to combat Altergeists, True Draco, etc. I run the Jamming Waves instead of a third Twin Twister due to it being searchable, and having that second effect to also pop a monster. It's also nice that it doesn't have a cost.
  • My last choice in the side is 2 copies of Solemn Strike. If I'm forced to go first, I want the best chance to be able to stop my opponent, and kill the next turn. If it takes 1500 or 3000 lifepoints to do that, so be it (unless I'm almost in time LOL).

I think this wraps up my thoughts on the deck. I always wanted to go back to my Invoked cards and I did, and it's been seeing success. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts and builds as well. Please feel free to ask any question in the comments! Thanks everyone.
