So, Lair of Darkness and its associated collection of hilarious fun-ruining cards are out in the TCG now, and I wanted to try my hand at a more "pure" build for it (since who needs anything other than to crush your enemy's monsters and see them driven before you?).

Monsters (20):

  • 3x Darkest Diabolos: Comes back again and again (if it's even removed in the first place!), is a decent body for beating or saccing to a virus. Also he's level 8, which'll be relevant later.

  • 1x Caius the Mega Monarch: Fun one-off tech number one. It's pretty easy to tribute two tokens for him (or a token and a recurring monster), at which point he annihilates two monsters and hits for 2000 straight to the dome. Once he's out in the (dark) world, he's level 8, which again, is handy.

  • 2x Malefic Stardust Dragon: Special summonable, protects the centerpiece of the deck, searchable off of Ahrima. What's not to love, except him locking all his pals out of attacking? Once his use is past I can just sac him for a virus or use him to overlay.

  • 1x Destrudo: Can be dumped off of a variety of cards to make Ancient Fairy Dragon as per usual. Sort of an emergency plan if my other Lair searchers end up wasted.

  • 2x: Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm: If I don't need to make AFD, I can dump this Pokémon instead for a free level 4 to make another extra deck monster with.

  • 3x Ahrima, King of Wickedness: Searches Lair, searches important Dark monsters, can draw cards in a pinch. Really just a solid card all-around.

  • 1x Duke Shade: More board disruption, can turn into a decent beater if Lair's made me a lot of tokens. Also lets me recycle some monsters in a pinch.

  • 2x Lilith, Lady of Lament: Searches those handy virus traps, can tribute my opponent's monsters as a quick effect too.

  • 1x Genex Ally Birdman: Bounces a monster I control to special summon itself, can synchro for Ancient Fairy if I'm in a position where paying half my LP isn't a good idea.

  • 1x Blackwing - Steam the Cloak: Drops a token when he leaves the field, tributes a monster to come back. Instant link, just add water.

Spells (17):

  • 2x Allure of Darkness: Everything I'm running is Dark.

  • 2x Fiend's Sanctuary: It's a free Link component.

  • 2x Dragon Shrine: Armageddon Knight as a spell card.

  • 2x Terraforming: "Get Lair" plan 1.

  • 1x Foolish Burial: Sometimes I don't want to spend my normal summon on Armageddon Knight but there's still a monster I need in my graveyard.

  • 1x Monster Reborn: No reason not to run one.

  • 3x Called by the Grave: Useful disruption, stops handtraps.

  • 3x Enemy Controller: A real 2-for-1 deal here on ruining my opponent's board. I can tribute the controlled monster for Caius, or turn it into a Link.

  • 3x Lair of Darkness: What needs to be said?

Traps (4):

  • 1x Eradicator Epidemic Virus: I only wish I could run more.

  • 3x Grinning Grave Virus: Probably the best creature-destroying virus; its negation effect makes it good against basically everything but Lightsworn and Zombies.

Extra Deck (15):

  • 2x Stardust Dragon: He's just here to turn evil.

  • 1x Ancient Fairy Dragon: She's already been elaborated on.

  • 1x Hope Harbinger Dragon: Can be made off of some combination of Diabolos, Caius, Stardust, or even monsters my opponent controls (via Enemy Controller). Spell negation on a huge body that protects some of my weaker monsters.

  • 1x Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon: For more combat-intensive scenarios where I don't need HHD.

  • 1x Utopia: Necessary for the big man himself.

  • 1x Utopia the Lightning: Beats over everything, but only once.

  • 1x Phantom Knights of Break Sword: I'm running four level 3 monsters so he's not too hard to make, and his asymmetrical destruction ability is quite handy.

  • 1x Decode Talker: He's big, beefy, opens up two main monster zones, and with Lair in play I can finally tribute my opponent's monsters for him like I've always dreamed.

  • 1x Tri-Gate Wizard: If I'm going hard into linkspam, he's great to have.

  • 2x Perpetual King Archfiend: I've got a good amount of Fiend-type monsters to summon him with. I'd rather run Apprentice Witchling, but she's still in the OCG.

  • 1x Binary Sorceress: Good for co-linking with Tri-Gate.

  • 1x Underclock Taker: More co-links.

  • 1x Link Spider: Free off of Lair, or Fiend's Sanctuary, or Steam the Cloak. I'd swap him out for Linkuriboh when he gets not-$30.

What are your thoughts? Once Troymares get here I'm gonna swap out the co-link core for some of them, probably; I'm also currently thinking about dropping the Darkwurm/Dragon Shrine setup in favor of more traps and another Lilith, but I'm interested in other directions to take the deck.
