Uncle Jaboobi's back... wit Hope for Exodia?! (Reddit Silver to those who get that reference)
Anyways, I'm pretty bored with this format, and I wanted to play a fun deck that I've had in my online decks, but I've never actually had in real life. After looking around at the few resources I had, I "finalized" a build that I took to locals that I went technically 1-3 with, even though it should have really been 2-2 (look at my vent post for the explanation on that one). I want this to go 2-2 at least consistently.
Let's get on to the decklist!
Monsters (15):
5x Pieces of Exodia, the win condition. Contrary to what some might think, opening any less than all 5 in your opening hand tends to hurt a lot unless you sack the shit out of people
2x Cardcar D, kinda hurts that it forces you to the End Phase, especially if you draw Hope for Escape or something
1x Spellbook Magician of Prophecy, I used to run two of this guy along with two each of the other engine pieces, but then it started to clog when I'd see multiples. Good at deck thinning, but am definitely willing to cut it if better solutions are offered. Also competes with Cardcar for the normal summon, which I don't like.
3x Swift Scarecrow and 3x Battle Fader, we want to control the damage we take on our own terms, so we run these to stall until we get Hope for Escape or other cards. Getting these stopped with Solemn Strike makes me die inside.
1x Maxx "C", it's Maxx "C", and with all the draw power in this deck, you tend to see it a lot.
Spells (7):
3x Pot of Duality, gets you free cards and lets you make sure stuff you don't want goes away. The special summon restriction doesn't hurt us at all. The only downsides are that it's OPT, can't be used with less than three cards in the deck (happens sometimes), and gives away the element of surprise if you reveal a piece.
1x Spellbook of Knowledge and 1x Spellbook of Secrets, both used to be run at 2, but then it would clog and you would end up with dead draws, which is bad. Drawing 2 is nice though.
1x Upstart Goblin, 39 card deck and gives them 1000lp, making Hope for Escape live.
1x One Day of Peace, saves you from battle damage and gives you a draw? Sign me up! Mildly annoying that they draw as well, but such is life.
Traps (15):
3x Hope for Escape, the namesake of the deck, can net you up to 6 cards sometimes and when you stack them its pretty nuts. Only sad part is that it can be dead and get Twin Twistered if you don't have Wall of Revealing Light or get your Gift Cards of Tri-and-Guesses off before they get wise.
3x Reckless Greed, 2 draws? Draw phase skip doesn't stack? Isn't OPT? Sweet.
3x Jar of Greed, kinda like Upstart but slower. Definitely willing to replace if better ideas come around
2x Tri-and-Guess, gives them 3000lp to fuel Hope for Escape and gives you the knowledge of what they're playing. Can be used in a pinch to give yourself 3000lp to survive a turn.
1x Gift Card, you may be saying to yourself "isn't this a Nurse Burn card?" Why yes, it is. It also makes Hope for Escape live and guarantees you get at least 2 draws from it.
2x Spiritual Swords of Revealing Light, lets you control the damage you take for Hope for Escape, and is good to discard if your hand is too big at the End Phase, seeing as, contrary to Scarecrow and Fader, it can't be Solemn Strike'd.
1x Wall of Revealing Light, this card is rightfully limited. It has singlehandedly won me games, especially since the activation is a cost, so it can make Hope for Escape live even if they try to chain Twisters. Paying 4000 with this pretty much guarantees that they won't be attacking until they get rid of it.
So that does it for the main deck. You might notice that it's only 37 cards, and that's because I have no idea what I should do for the last three cards. Is there a draw engine I can wedge in? More battle stoppers? I need your help.
Your extra deck can be anything you want it to be, as long as there is one XYZ, one Synchro, and one Fusion. I think it would work where if you just have one Link monster in there then they will always gain the 3000LP since you can't declare Link. I need a fact checker on that. For those that are curious, my extra is Masked HERO Vapor, Alchemic Magician, and Dewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier.
That's the R/F! I might ask for sidedeck help in the tech and deckbuilding, so if you're interested in that or have suggestions, catch me over there. If you've survived this 5000 character drivel this far, thanks for reading!
