Hi, I am building a user-friendly, distributed media platform where creators can create larger-scale projects (animated shows, movies, comedies, polished webshows) and build media platforms that rewards each of the collaborator(s) involved financially as opposed to not being able to tackle on large-scale projects because the money is not there on YouTube - despite the fact that it could very much exist.
However, in order to do this, I have to address the problems that YouTube has..
For me as a viewer, the problems that I have are:
- Not good discoverability (sometimes, I want to find great webshows to watch but they are extremely hard to find. If I watch one type of video then that's all I am getting it. This is why I go without YouTube for weeks on end because it's the same thing...sadly.)
- Getting my subscribed videos 2 weeks late or 6 months later after being uploaded. (It happens to all of us. We are on YouTube, we find that our new favorite video is up and ready to be watched...5 weeks ago.)
- Not befriending fellow audience members and recommend each other TV shows. (I always found that the commenting system can be much better and that if you discover that you can befriend an audience member in the YouTube comments then you could get recommendations that you would be interested in.)
- Creator getting screwed financially/creatively/through the algorithm (This was a major problem back in the days before and when Patreon was getting off the ground but certain creators are getting demonetized. Also, the creator can't swear or produce the work that they want. That makes me feel cheated that YouTube is doing that because I am wondering, "What if the creator had full control over their content?")
- Emphasis on creator and not the content. (YouTube is a place where anyone can upload small videos like rants, video essays, and commentaries but it would be grand to have more bigger projects being developed akin to VGHS. It would be nice to create more larger-scale projects and have those projects be ACTUALLY financially possible. YouTube could easily solve this but they refuse to...)
That's enough about me. What about you guys? What problems do you do have as a viewer with YouTube?
