I've been watching Y&R so long, I remember when the Winters/Barber clan basically had their own show within the show. The black characters had their storyline and everyone else had theirs. Things have changed a lot since then which I fully support. I still ship Lilly and Cane. However, unlike As The World Turns, which took an older character and exposed her racial biases. Lisa McColl had a dear Black friend and had to face unsettling truths about herself when that friend married a White man.
All these semi-villains on this soap and none have any racial bias? I understand not wanting to sully a Newman or Abbott. I know African-Americans can be racist. I fully expected Drusilla Barber might have problems with Lilly only having white lovers.
I'd love to see a new teenage character be jealous of Moses dating Faith and that starting a storyline. It would have been interesting to see good guy Nick express concern about Faith and Moses. I doubt we get it. A missed opportunity. Heck, even Devon getting harassed caretaking for a white looking son would be something new.
So many characters have good friends from different backgrounds. It would be interesting to see them reach to everyday racism.
