Hi everyone,
I'm a 4th year mature student and am feeling particularly nervous about this upcoming semester, as I'll be taking more than the usual amount of credits (12, I generally take 9 at a time). Unfortunately one of the classes I chose at the beginning of the year had to be turned into an intensive, 6-credit course occurring only in the winter semester. So it's 3 classes still, but one of them will have 6 hours of lectures per week.
I'm a student with Autism, ADHD and other disabilities so I feel like in general, 3 classes at a time and my part-time job at York are what I can handle mentally.
When I find myself struggling with everything on my schedule, the first thing to go is attendance. I'll start to miss my classes and come up with reasons to justify it. I do have various accommodations and one of them does give me some leeway for absences, but I don't want to use this as an excuse.
My attendance for one of my full year courses in the fall was dismal, and this semester I really want to do better. It's a nighttime class (7-10pm) on campus, with an hour commute each way. I originally figured night classes would be easy peasy for me to attend, I was wrong.
Fortunately I have thus far had a good experience here at York. My GPA is very good and my lowest grade is a singular B. But my work ethic is questionable, particularly attendance but also with doing assignments last minute.
Does anyone here have any tips on staying on track regarding balancing school, work and adult stuff? I imagine having a good work ethic could only lessen stress, and I really want to be on top of shit this semester.
If you've read this entire novel, you have my gratitude.
