I've read various commentaries on the yoga sutras and thoroughly enjoy much of what commentators have to say. Currently, I am reading Iyengar's and he puts forth such detail as to deliver a variety of potential translations for the individual sanskrit words. This has shined a new light upon my understanding of the text and also sparked a curiosity. Does there exist a text where is it just translations of the singular words?
I have nothing against commentary, but there will always be bias. A yogi who comes from a specific lineage is going to have that lineage's influence seeping into everything they share. Short of becoming a scholar of sanskrit, I am find myself increasingly curious, and so I'm looking for less commentary and more translation. Maybe I'll just become a sanskrit scholar.
Anyone ever heard of something like this? Or know of a good option? I'd even take another commentary like Iyengar's, where he provides numerous options for what each word could mean in/out of context.
Recommend me things!!!
