I open-sourced a script to automatically import my Amazon transactions into YNAB [github]. It's a superfluous thing; you're not missing out on much by not using this tool. However, I found out that this doesn't already exist, but I wanted it, so I made it.
This is a problem that extends to a lot of stores - not just Amazon. Basically any general goods store might sell you groceries, cloths, electronics, etc. Our credit-card transactions show us the total, but not the breakdown. YNABers have to offset this with manual entry as a labor of love. From what I can tell by reading the many quiet posts of this subreddit, there's a lot of churn and fresh-start budgets due to this.
I'm wondering if there's a general interest in an app where you can upload photos of your receipts, and have that be automatically imported into YNAB? You'll still have to categorize the transactions, but at least the importing and splitting will be done automatically.
Thoughts?
In YNAB, when editing an Amazon purchase line, click on Amazon (payee) then click on the information icon next to it. It will show items there 9x/10.
