My Yakuza Rankings Before Replaying Them All

Post Body

Just wanted to give my rankings of the game. I started in 2021 and the series is probably one of the greatest things I ever played. I went in with 0 knowledge of the game and only gave it a shot due to the meme of Kiryu punching the table and walking away when he is with Date lol.

My Ranking (Based on Overall Enjoyment):

  1. Yakuza 0- My first Yakuza game but everything felt so fleshed out with something to do in every corner. Amazing story with an amazing soundtrack.
  2. Like a Dragon- The fresh take on the combat with REALLY fun side quests and mini games. I had doubts of a new protag but Ichi really was a great choice and the Tojo clan scene was just absolute bliss
  3. Yakuza 5- I hated the Haruka parts at first but man it was such a great break and the story was just really entertaining. Kiryu had some of the best scenes in this game as well. The ending was really satisfying for me when I first watched it. This game was really great in hindsight.
  4. Yakuza 3- At first the swap from kiwami and kiwami 2 into y3 killed me but as I started to play through the story, it became on of my favorites. If kiwami 3 is made then it'll probably end up with the top spot for me since the story is just that amazing.
  5. LAD: Infinite Wealth- Wasn't a big fan of Bryce or some other aspects of the story and how overly goofy certain moments felt like the shark hurt it but Kiryu's story alone saved the game for me. I don't watch trailers or look up reviews anymore so hearing Kiryu had cancer broke me. The life links hit the heart good and I was really feeling as if this game was meant to pass the torch to Ichi while also using it as a goodbye to Kiryu. Ending was amazing for me but the game itself was so fun and I loved Hawaii.
  6. LAD: Gaiden- Gameplay was a lot of fun, I really liked the story but that ending my god. One of the greatest most emotional endings I have ever witnessed.
  7. Lost Judgement- I really like the dark tones and the story focuses on issues you'll see anywhere and I think it's always a nice touch being able to truly empathize with certain situations or characters. This game was greatly made.
  8. Yakuza 4- Mainly for Akiyama. His introduction to the series starts here and that is enough for me. One of my favorite characters in the series. Also the ending sequences were too great.
  9. Judgement- Loved the idea of a spin off and thought they killed it with this game. Just starts off a bit slow but amazing game nonetheless.
  10. Kiwami 1- The game was amazingly made and maybe I will appreciate it more after a replay but coming off 0 to see certain characters die with no screentime and the fact the it mainly follows the original just hurt it for me a bit. 0 felt fleshed out and kiwami felt rushed in comparison but it was meant to be a remake of the original so I still enjoyed it a lot.
  11. Kiwami 2- The game was a ton of fun and I really enjoyed it but I could not get behind the story at all. It just felt so over the top and didn't feel as captivating as the previous two I had played. Ryuji is such a great villain but they didn't do him justice but had an amazing time with the game.
  12. Yakuza 6- Now the game was a lot of fun and maybe this could be chocked to burnout cause I played 0-6 straight. Gameplay was a great time but the Haruka story by far was the worst thing I ever had to witness. Just didn't make sense as to why they didn't think to flesh out Haruka's relationship. Over the year of playing I watch this girl grow from a kid to an adult and you tell us she has a kid with someone who was barely developed as a character until the last few chapters??? and even then I sensed no damn connection. It felt so out of place for me. It sucks because her marrying a yakuza makes sense in how that's all she knows and looks up to but damn it man I just didn't feel it idk.
  13. LAD: Ishin- Only here because I didn't finish and not a big fan of the combat but hopefully will finish this time.

I'm hoping my opinion changes with a replay. Just curious, have any of you replayed all of them and then readjusted your rankings? I'm curious to see if mine stays the same.
