Y6, Y7, Then Gaiden?

So I'm currently at the finale of Y6 and have reached a crossroad. I was never told that Y7/LAD was a sequel to any of the other games so it ended up being my first. I fell in love with the series and wanted to see where it all started. A year later and I'm about to finish Y6 but I'm trying to figure out if I should replay Y7 for a proper fill in the blank or of I can play Gaiden then go play Y7? I am aware that Gaiden is meant to explain where Kiryu was during Y7, but knowing all the plot to it as well I also know that he's not in the game until the third act. Advice?
