Hey there, everyone!
I'm completely new to this subreddit and wanted to introduce myself. I've been hearing the word "keto" buzzing around within my social groups and, after encountering someone that has done keto today (through a different subreddit), I feel really inspired to get started in October!
About me: I'm a woman, 5'3", and I wouldn't be surprised if I'm hovering in the 250-280lbs range. (I don't want to confirm this because it'll make me depressed, lol.) I just turned 30, don't smoke, and rarely drink (1-3 times a year). I no longer have my gallbladder and I'm also diagnosed with PCOS. I currently regulate things with a super low estrogen level birth control, but it'll be nice to get off the pill for good.
Around June, I started making changes to my daily lifestyle. Soda is nearly nonexistent in my diet (as low as maybe 1-3 meals total out of the week, which is great for me and I already suffered through the headaches), but I replaced my main source of drink with 1% milk or water. (Definitely need more water intake! I enjoy it the most with no-calorie liquid lemon flavoring.) Snacks have vanished from my home and I encourage myself to not buy them in the store - this also goes for things like cookies and ice cream. If they're not at home, I don't eat them! And thanks to Pokemon Go, I'm walking at least 3 miles about 3-4 times a week. (Not bad for someone that doesn't really exercise at all, which is partially why I'm at this way to begin with. Yeah, I said it, lol.) Have there been changes to my body? Not by appearance that I can tell, but definitely in energy level and I don't sound like a hyperventilating walrus after climbing a few flights of stairs. I think I'm ready to take the next step and I think keto is the way to do it!
So, now I'm here, redditers! What advice can you give for someone that's literally Day 1 with this? What are your favorite recipes? What are the do's and don't's of choosing your foods? What foods are the best foods? If you have/had PCOS, what changes did keto do for you and what could be in store for me? Does not having a gallbladder spring up any issues? What side effects will I endure after starting keto? I hear headaches can be a thing and what exactly is "keto breath"?
