Question regarding Xbox One Controller Exchange

So I did an xbox controller exchange and controller is being shipped. I received the email regarding this and it said "You don’t have to send to us your faulty device for service as this will be deemed as a duplicate request". So does that mean I have to keep the faulty one or will I have to eventually send it back?
