Ok, so I bought some controllers off Ebay for a good deal. The wires are chewed on/cut so it doesn't work unless you hold it just right. Well I've got a controller my wife got from China (You know the ones without the X symbol on the Xbox button. Just a silver round button. Well it doesn't work like it should as far and controls. So I got these to fix them and get her a custom controller as well (going to paint it).
The 1st controller is the one I described above and the 1st I'm working on out of the 2. I can get Windows to recognize it and all the buttons/Sticks work (Haven't tried D-pad). Problem is that the black wire in the cluster of wires is almost completely cut. I would love to know what each of these wires go to or control. I assume the black is a ground, but I really have no idea. The best I can think to do is to strip the wire in that area and use electrical tape around it really tight.
Now my other solution is that her controller from China is just hot glued instead of soldered, so can I remove the port where the wires are going and hot glue them like the China controller? Will this affect the controller at all?
Hopefully someone has tinkered with these controllers before and can help me out!
-EDIT- Fixed BOTH controllers! What I did for future reference to help others:
I cut the cord where it was already messed up and stripped everything down a bit. Then I tied each cord together with the other piece I cut. So afterwards it was all together again like it should be. I electrical taped each wire individually once I had them together good. Then I taped it all together as one piece. Lastly, I pit the boot thing back over the wire (I cut it vertically down the seam) and taped it as well since my wire was too big to fit inside like before. Now it plays like it should. My test was Dark Souls and I haven't died to faulty buttons yet so its working pretty well!
No soldering required btw.
