XBL membership downgraded to silver after using Halo 4 14-day trial

Yesterday afternoon I redeemed the code for the 14-day gold trial, and my silver membership was upgraded to gold. Later that night I go on the finally play some Halo 4 online, and my membership has been downgraded to silver. Does anyone know what could cause this?
