Should I be able to hear the series x fan?

I feel like it was silent even when playing games when I first got it 3-4 months ago but now even at the home screen I can hear the fan ever so slightly. And it’s still warm even when doing nothing.
When I play de,adding games I can actually hear it slightly about 2 feet away and it gets really hot.
Should I open it and do a cleaning or is there something else I should be worried about?
