So I'm trying to get a working copy of XBMC on my Raspberry Pi.
I first tried installing the OpenELEC operating system directly which runs XBMC and has had a ton of good word from its users.
After installing, I discovered I couldn't get it to install any add-ons and I also noticed that it didn't keep the device name I gave it, so perhaps it isn't saving any settings either?
I then installed Raspbian (Raspberry Pi fork of Debian) and installed XBMC successfully, but the same two problems above persisted. I can access the internet and I'm also able to connect to my device via SSH, ping, do whatever. But XBMC still doesn't want to do anything.. I've tried installing normally, via ZIP, adding alternative sources and installing via zip, and nothing is working.
Oh and before I forget, I did try both wireless (which works fine) and ethernet (which also works fine) but neither have helped. Every time I attempt to download an add-on, it wait a bit, shows "Downloading 0%" and then shows a "Working..." notification before silently dropping the download.
Does anyone know anything that might help? I'd really appreciate it..
UPDATE: Okay, so after reimaging, going back to some old projects of mine, and then reattempting to install XBMC over Raspbian..it works and will download!
What I did differently was, after lots of research, I edited /etc/default/xbmc to use my default user, changed it to ENABLED=1 which allows automatic startup, and I made sure my Raspberry Pi wasn't overclocked during all of this. It was able to download all my add-ons properly and I was able to really trick it out nicely. :P
