Engrave faster / top to bottom of image?

I'm trying to engrave this then cut the outline. It first engraved the outside thick black line, then the inside one, then the circle... Why doesn't it just go top to bottom? Wouldn't it be exponentially faster and less moving.the laser?
Surely I'm doing something wrong
