Hey Guys!
So I finally ventured over to Post Falls in search of this mysterious "nude beach" that gets a lot of discussion but seems more fantasy than reality. Here's my review...
The nude beach itself isn't too difficult to find, based upon photos from online that you can use for reference points so as to know you're in the right place. Initially, I hiked down the dried up stream bed behind the first dam...which was a mistake (I'm fit, but it's literally scrambling over bolders for a good piece). Eventually, you'll reach a lagoon-like area, with a large outcropping of wild grasses and sand/dirt. Directly across from this area, you'll see another beach across the water. Neither of these are the "nude beach" and it would not be a good idea to strip down at either one as you could be well seen by anyone hiking that area, the occasional angler or by the Avista workers at the dams. I ended up backtracking up the washout/dried up spillway and going across the lagoon, finding a marked trail (Purple Trail) and proceeding westbound along the river (past the second dam). That trail leads you around the corner, westbound along the river. Having left the purple markers, I followed along the river's edge until I found a moderately sized sand/dirt and rock area that was out of sight of the second dam facility and pretty secluded. One way you'll know you found the right spot is that the river has some small rapids right there...something you don't see along the river in that particular area. It's pretty shady (sunny wise, not sketchy wise), but not very large and there were not many other similar coves; in that area, vegitation mostly grows right up to the riverside.
When I got there, there were three other nude people; everyone just sort of kept to themselves and drank or smoked pot. It was a midweek day, so I'm not sure if weekends are more lively...but I will say that it is a hike to get there (more to follow). Unlike People's Park back in the day, there wasn't any sort of sketch vibe (ie, prostitutes and agressive gays), no homeless encampments and no worries about law enforcement cruising by. If you go there, nobody's going to bother you. But, back to the hike...
On the way out I hiked back via the entire Purple Trail (which also parallels/shares the Blue Trail for the most part) and it has some scrambling too, especially after the footbridge and rockclimbing area. I'm fit, so it wasn't a big deal but I could see how on a hot day it could give you pause to stop a few times and gather energy/drink water...especially in these very hot days of late. I meant to time myself so as to provide better directions, but I forgot; next time, I'll do so and post the results here. If I had to guess, I'd say 30ish minutes.
Will I go back? Maybe. Based upon the drive and hike times, I could just as well hit Kaniksu for the day and watch/be watched by more people (don't fool yourselves: There are a lot of lifestyle folks that visit Kaniksu, you just have to be discrete and know the signs). My personal kinks are voying/exhibiting couples, in addition to the occasional "Jack & Jill" stuff if it presents itself. People's Park in the 90's and early 00's still had some of that action, but now you have to either visit Rooster Rock outside of Portland or Arcadia Romantic Getaway in Shelton (though that's a couple's place and alternates between plain-jane nudism and lifestyle weekends). The Q'emiln Park nude beach wouldn't really satisfy my fetish unless I made prearrangements to meet up there with a M/F couple. But hey, it's still a nude beach and seems really safe to visit.
I'll try to post some photos I took of the areas mentioned previously, just to provide better reference points on how to get to the Post Falls nude beach. Hope this was helpful.
