Post Body

This is one of several letters in my collection in which I have more information on the man behind the letter rather than the content of the letter itself. However, I thought it would be a neat thing for people to see and if you'd like to take a crack at transcribing it (or reading it), then do share the contents with us!

Here's the letter in question, which was written to his sister.

This letter was written by Stanley Alexander Scarlett. He was born in Mirboo North, Victoria and enlisted in Melbourne on the 24th of April, 1916. He was 26 years old at enlistment, was married and named his profession as being that of a shipping clerk. He embarked for Europe on the 5th of June. He disembarked at South Hampton, England on the 25th of July and would proceed to France on the 25th of November as part of the 6th Australian Mechanical Transport Company. Almost a year later, he would go to leave to the UK (which is mentioned in the letter). While he occasionaly got hospitalized for sickness, he didn't seem to have had any major issues and returned safely back home to Australia in 1919.
