This is an open call to any remaining veterans of the Aleutian campaign and their descendants. I'm a born and raised Alaskan filmmaker. I've known I want to document the story of the Aleutian campaign since I first picked up my parents camcorder as a boy and began making short videos in our back yard. The Aleutians are a story that is seldom told and that many Americans aren't even aware of, and I feel it's my duty as a filmmaker to preserve their legacy for future generations to be able to understand and learn from.
I'm currently in the initial stages of this production - primarily focused on research and finding veterans that are still around. If you or one of your relatives participated in the campaign in any capacity and would be comfortable being interviewed, I would love to be put in touch with them. If you had a relative that participated in the campaign that has passed but left behind photos, film, or letters; I would love to talk about being able to use them in this production.
To reach out; feel free to send me a DM. We can then transition to email as a more efficient communication platform. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best, Torin
