Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I have a quick question, I noticed when I browse through pictures of the service dress uniforms worn by the US Army during WW2 there are a lot of different variations of the shirt worn underneath the dress coat. Sometimes I either see a combination of a chocolate brown shirt with khaki tie, khaki shirt with khaki tie, olive green with chocolate brown tie, and many more.
My question is, are these different combinations because of rank, preference, or to distinguish from the army air corps/forces from the regular army ?
