Hey guys…my grandfather passed away a few years ago and my grandma has decided to give me a few of his items…my grandpa’s friend served in the army in the pacific theater and the story goes that he took a Japanese sword and type 99 japanese rifle from a dead combatant on Okinawa. Both items are heavily pitted, the type 99 has a cracked stock but also has Okinawa may 45 carved into the stock. PRETTY COOL. My goal is to make a shadow box but I really want to find more information pertaining to my grandpas friend. I have his name but can’t locate anything reguarding his service. Just really want to find as much information as I can about him. Any suggestions short of submitting paperwork to the archives?
If anyone’s interested in photos I can post some. The sword and rifle are not currently in my possession but I can go over there tomorrow and snap some photos. Thanks everyone!
