So, some context. I am a young black inspiring author writing a fantasy novel about a young man who is destined to end the world. He is white. Some of my concerns that are now popping up in my mind are how people are going to take this and the potential backlash. I have 4 main characters and one of them is black/middle eastern with dark skin, and another is a woman. I like to represent all genders, sexualities (being gay myself), and colors in this work and not have to feel pressured to have the main protagonist be black. I also can't envision a black character that was born to destroy the world. I grew up reading epic fantasy based on middle-aged European myths and heroes with a dark destiny trope. I like them and one of my favorite writing advice is to write what you know.
So I guess my main concern is: If I end up publishing this book, will I receive major backlash?
