I'm sure this has been asked before in the past but I was hoping for some new answers possibly. I write adult novels, but despite being an adult myself, all my betas have said that it reads more YA. Most of them say it's because of the prose/writing itself that sounds YA and a few have said it's because of the content in the story/the way the characters act, but does anyone know how to go around that? The content/character's actions problem will probably be an easier fix, but prose/narration is something that is improved over time, and I was wondering if there are any exercises/techniques to use to practice that or just general things to look out for when writing for an older audience.
