This has been discussed quite often: should we use (or avoid) using conversation tags?
Some people say only use said, never use barked, hollered, whined, etc.
Some frown on using adverb modifiers to indicate HOW someone said something, like sadly, angrily, wryly, etc.
My biggest advice is, read it out loud, or better yet, listen to someone else read it out loud, and ask yourself if it flows or if it is distracting.
I once read a short story from Ernest Hemingway out loud and it was brutally awkward to speak out whole conversations of short pieces of dialogue with “he said” after every few words.
TL;DR: When in doubt, transfer your words from text to speech to see what works best.
