I've always loved it when authors take a overdone trope, and put a really unique spin on it to make it something new and refreshing. It's something I try to do in my own writing. I'm not sure how well I'm doing it lol, but I like it. What are some overdone tropes you hate, but would love to see be done in a completely new way? I'll go first. An overused trope is characters having scars. I think it's cheesy, but I like it when the scar actually affects the character in a way that's interesting or important. Like the scar isn't just there to make them look tough or cool, it has a legit affect on them, and sometimes may even drive the plot forward. My main character has a scar, but it affects him and the plot in a way that's important. I also hate the orphan trope since it's been done to death, but is one I'm doing as well since I think it's cool when done a bit different. Like maybe the orphan gets adopted by an interesting group of people, or the child is an orphan because everyone on the earth is gone, and the story follows their final days surviving the abandoned planet. I'm just throwing ideas out there. What about you guys?
