Bonjour! I am writing a historical romance/crime novel. I am satisfied with my opening and with my conclusion. But in my middle, I am struggling with decent scenes which can show the developing relationship between the protagonists. Generally speaking, I'd love if people with more experience in writing in this genre could give me some help in figuring out what makes for a good opportunity in historical contexts for an aristocratic pair to meet and engage with one another. Like, how many times can they meet at a ball, or at the park, or at a party... eventually they need some connection as people... I'm struggling with making that connection between the two characters.
The other problem is that I am writing about 18th century France and most of the romance novel blogs I've visited focus on Regency England. It's helpful but not always.
I also hope to use this post as an opportunity to connect with historical romance writers. I'm in need of friends who work in this genre if only to brain storm with.
