I truly feel that my story dialogue will sound more "true" if I write like I speak. I cuss quite frequently. An example of this is that there are characters who are basically drill sergeants. I have personally been to bootcamp and heard the language used by those training me. It's not nice. I want to write what I know, and I think the dialogue will feel more natural if I use some expletives. My dilemma is that my entire family is very religious and will probably be the main readers of the finished product. They are offended by swearing. So what would you suggest? Do I write it the way that seems natural and true or do I try to find alternative words that will make my book PG instead of R? I really don't want my grandmother reading a bunch of cussing, but I also don't want to make the book sound cheesy with a bunch of "oh my hecks"s and fudges, butts, whatever else I'm sure you understand what I'm asking. Thanks for any input.
