Anyone have experience giving up on an idea?
Post Body

I actually finished the first draft of a prospective novel recently, and going 7,000 into the second draft, I realize that I don't actually like this story at all, it's not really working, and I don't even like the concept anymore. Reading anothe book got me interested in exploring another concept instead.

Feels like a big waste to let go of all those words, especially because I spent a ton of time worldbuilding. Anyone else have experience with this? Does it ever get better if you force yourself, or is this also another way of "killing your darlings?"
