Should I know my whole plot before beginning my writing?

I am currently writing a dystopian fiction book and am in the very early portion of it. I have a general idea as to the direction I want to go with the book, but I don't feel like I have adequately plotted my sequence of events or anything. Should I spend some time brainstorming exactly where I want to be headed in this book?
